Saturday 15, December.  WE won the Facebook Photo contest-- So we got to have a Pizza Party!! (After our work was done of course!)  We did Composits today. -- Lots of information and lots of practicing.  The teachers are sooo helpful and patient.  We also had a pop quiz today. Love this class, the people and all the stuff I'm learning.  I want to start working on my resume and get busy on finding a place for my externship this week.  Over half of the people in my class have theirs!! So excited for my future in Dental Assisting.

Potluck and amalgam's

Today was the best day so far!  We had the best class potluck ever!!!  Food was amazing and wonderful.  We spent the day learning about amalgams-I have to say they are hard, and fun at the same time.  We got to suction while the instructors prepped the typodont's.  This was great practice, while it was only on a fake person it was still very helpful :). A big shout out to our instructors who are the most patient people I think I've ever met.....we are moving right along with this class-I love it!

Friends and family week was a success, it is a great way to get more practice on people other than classmates and is also nice because we get to show off all our new skills that we have been learning to friends and loved ones. Three weeks left until we are certified dental assistants!!! Externships have already started, which means this class has flown by so fast. It does not seem like we have been in class for three months and are ready to be out on our own, but we are. We have learned so much and have had so much practice time on each other that everyone in class feels more than ready to start working in an office.

Sore teeth?? X-Ray time!!

It's the end of raidation.  So far this has been one of my favorites that we have learned so far. Learning how to place an take X-rays in a patient is a little difficult at first but once you get the hang of it it's simple! Developing the film and making an actually X-ray is just as simple as taking them. The best thing about this class is that if you don't understand how to do it you get to keep trying till you do or unroll you feel more than comfortable. Taking X-rays definitely helps you learn the numbers and surfaces of the teeth. Take a look at a student getting ready to take an X-ray and the film after being developed!

It's already the start of the third week! This class is going to fly by, especially When you have teachers like ours.  Typical college classes are long and boring, hours of lecture from a monotone professors making you snore, whereas at CSDA the teacher interact with the students to make sure everyone understands all material as well as making it enjoyable. If you like learning by doing hands on then this would be a great class to take. Everyday were learning and practicing new material. Check out some of the students leading how to do impressions and profi on each other!!

Open Wide!

Open wide! Time for impressions and x-rays. Let's start with impressions, it is not fun having it done to you but how Cherly says "that is how you will know what the patient feels in this moment", but after the pouring the result is amazing. You can display it on your trophy case, maybe! X-rays are a little complicated but they say practice makes perfect. All in all we have learned a lot up to this point, we are legit, come on we all got B's and higher on our mid-term, beat that! And that was a challenge!

Midterm!

Today we had our midterm I was really nervous about it! I think I did fine-but tests make me crazy. We are celebrating with an awesome potluck! All the students and instructors brought something yummy to share. How cool to be in a school where you do things like this. I can't wait to taste all the great food :) We are going to be working on x-rays this afternoon-I can honestly say that these are difficult!!! The placement has to be perfect so you don't get a cone cut. We will all get it soon, it just takes a lot of practice. Thankfully we can practice as much as we need to! Cheryl and Amady are super awesome when it comes to patience-if you need help you can guarantee that they are there to help you. Even if they have gone over it 100 times they will go over it 100 more! Thanks guys :)

First day!!

First day of class and one word amazing. All the students are very friendly ready to take their career one step further. Both instructors are very attentive, they slow down if you ask. Have an answer to each and every single question. Need a laugh or two? Well this class is the place. When it is time to play we play but then when it comes down to learning open up that brain of yours and start picking and storing. I have to say I was a little nervous walking into class but here you make friends faster than you can microwave popcorn. I believe I am not the only one who is excited for these twelve weeks, I very much look forward to it! Strap on your seatbelt and get ready for the ride!

The start of something great...

Day 1 was packed full of information. Nervous as we awaited what would come next and anxious as we all began our journey, the class sat quiet. Our teachers Sheryl and Amanty quickly brought the life into the room. In an instant I knew this class was going to be awesome. They have such passion and excitement for the job they do that I am sure it will spread to each and every one of us. In the first class we learned a brief history of dentistry, the anatomy of the mouth, and who would of thought...the correct way to number and refer to the teeth. They wouldn't be just canine teeth or vampire teeth to us any more. We also covered charting and how to mark the teeth depending on what was wrong with them. It is going to take a lot of work getting familiar with all of the new vocabulary and terms but I have no doubt that with the help of the upcoming lab, we will be able to pick things up more quickly with practice.
