Week Seven

Hello all! I want to meet Mr. Tofflemire and Mr. Hemostat... anybody else? Instruments everywhere, fast-paced procedures, and plenty of information was the name of the game this week. It's all good stuff, it's all fun stuff, and it makes me wish that it was more than 2 days a week. Good news is: it will be!

Pictures will be posted on next blog entry! Enjoy you're week!

Week Six

A big congratulations, everyone, on your mid-term! It was challenging and practical and, thanks to our terrific instructors, gave me more confidence heading into the second half of our education and training. One-on-ones were also appreciated, giving not only the students but also the instructors, a chance to discuss strengths, opportunities, concerns, and compliments. It is obvious that CSDA really cares about each student and their success!

Enough of the "mushy" stuff though--we don't have time! Here we go, right into restorative dental assisting. We'll be learning about the procedures for composite and amalgam fillings, and work our way into bridges and crowns. If you enjoy labwork as much as I do, these next few weeks you will be showing up early to class! Lectures and notetaking are going to be important still, so keep those ears open and your pencil ready to jot down those jewels of wisdom. As always, keep your focus and have a great time with it--I am!

Week Five

Hello everyone! We have learned about medical emergencies, anesthesia, and how to prepare an aspirating syringe. We have also completed all lab work and are ready for week six--the mid-term exam! This will not be for the faint of heart, folks. The questions will cover everything that we have learned so far, from terminology to instrument recognition, and charting to procedure and setup. Don't worry, we've been trained to ace this test! Your notes and all previous tests are your study materials, but don't forget you have classmates and instructors to help you through any questions you may have.

Our graduation is nearing quickly, so remember you must have an externship of at least eight hours in order to complete your requirements. Some of you have already found where this will take place--congratulations! Some of you may still be unsure of where to look--don't worry, here are some places you can look online:

Colorado Dental Association
Angieslist
Craigslist
DentalJobs.com
Metro Denver Dental Association

Also, you can talk to your current dentist. It's all about networking, so get yourself out there and make it happen! Best of luck everyone--
